The Darkhold Alpha
The comic starts out with doom finding the Darkhold and reading it. Dr. Doom has his doom bots read it first, for anyone that reads the Darkhold can succumb to the nightmares and insanity of the words in the flesh bound book. Its at this point Wanda Maximoff, The Scarlett Witch, wakes from a nightmare to realize that someone somewhere has found the Darkhold and Chthon is coming!
It’s then that Wanda Appears to stop the villainy from reading the book and unleashing Chthon and his dark powers upon earth. It’s also at this point she starts a skirmish with Victorious, one of Victor Von Doom’s pawns. While fighting Victorious, Victorious tells Wanda that she was never fit to rule with Dr. Doom. She then beats her telling her that she knows Doctor Doom and that she has more experience than her. Dr. Doom arrives in a flash of green energy, stating that Wanda believes she knows much, but she never knew Dr. Doom. To Which Wanda replies to Dr. Doom asking what his plans are with the book and that he should know that the powers within the book are dangerous. But Doom replies knowing full well the ramifications of reading the book, that’s why he had one of his doom bots read it first. Further discussion starts as they discuss how to stop Chthon from escaping the Other-Realm. As Doom reads the book further he reads from the flesh bound book that they need five entities that shall help imprison Chthon, The Dark Defenders! Theses five were known as The Dreamer, The Fool, The Stoic, The Hunter, and The Artist. As Doom pays no mind to words in the Darkhold, he travels to the Other-World by himself to try and defeat Chthon.
It’s at this point Wanda recruits and teleports heroes to her. Iron Man, Blade, Wasp, Black Bolt, and Spider-Man. Then The Scarlett Witch debriefs the team on what they must do. With much hesitation, they eventually all join except Black Bolt. He states how he must look out for his people first, The Inhumans. Black Bolt is sign language this when out of no where Dr. Doom returns from the Other-World. Bloody with half of his armor gone from the fight. His jaw piece is gone, armor in flames, barely clutching to his life. It’s at this point when Black Bolt asks him what had happened to him while there, but he would not tell them about what he saw, for it was “for Dooms eyes alone”.
After hearing the speech from Dr. Doom, Black Bolt changes his mind. It’s then that the team reads from The Darkhold, only to succumb to the powers that the book possesses. Seconds later the team is transformed by the Darkhold, Instead of becoming the Darkhold Defenders, they are turned into the Darkhold defilers! A nasty team that could only be servants of the God of Chaos, Chthon.
After reading this comic issue, I found myself invested, I wanted to read more. The designs of the Darkhold Defilers was amazing, the art work on Dr. Doom’s fight and after math in the Other-World was beautifully drawn. The dark undertones in this issues really bring to life how deadly Chthons powers are.
I honestly cannot wait for the next issue to release next week on October 13, 2021. This issue is Titled “Darkhold: Iron Man.”
